White: Aiko Kikuyo 8p (Japan)
Black: Kim Hyemin 5p (Rep. of Korea)
Komi: 6.5, Women Team, 2nd round
Commentary by Enda Hideki 9p. (Click on the diagram to launch the game viewer. SGF available here).
Black 13-25. Black pushes White into the black framework on the right side, but builds power in the center. Aoki said she was surprised to encounter this strategy from a Korean opponent.
Black 27. Correct. To make use of Black 13-25, Black must attack White 26.
Black 31. Also correct, for the same reason. This is not the time for Black to play a handicap-style joseki move at 32.
White 34. Leaves weaknesses. A diagonal move, one space to the left, might have been better.
White 48. Keeps White from being cut apart, but the white group as a whole is still weak.
Black 49. This invasion hits a vulnerability that Black has been aiming at, but—.
White 50-60. White defends correctly and Black`s result is not good.
Black 63-79. This sequence is reasonable for both sides.
White 80. Aoki called this the game-losing move. White does not need to play in this area. No matter what Black does, White can connect out by playing at the right of 63 or 73. A move at the 3-3 point in the bottom right would have been better.
White 82-88. White ends in gote, letting Black make the next move in the center.
White 90. Natural, but the continuation only exposes the weaknesses of White`s group, while Black`s stones become stronger.
Black 131. This move and Black 137 are now sente.
Black 139. Once Black jumps in here, White does not have enough territory to win.
Result: Black wins by 10.5 points.
