RUSSIA- CANADA: An Unorthodox Joseki
An unorthodox joseki and questionable positional judgment mark the first-round game between Alexey Lazarev 6d of Russia and Yongfei Ge 7d of Canada. Although Lazarev follows the proverb that you play the shimari after taking the corners, Michael Redmond 9P says that “in this position it would be better to play in the center of the lower side.” This game also features Redmond’s advice on how to handle your opponent’s large moyo.
